Hi! It’s been my dream since high school to work in the arctic/antarctic. I’m currently attending my first year of university and am undecided in my major. I’m curious if there are any permanent jobs at any of the US stations, and also if any of those permanent positions are in the medical field. I’ve heard that the application process can be pretty rough. Is there high competition among scientists or is it mostly just non-scientific work, such as janitorial? Thanks!
Laszio…welcome! Actually most of the “science” is done by university and other researchers who apply for and receive grants–the participants are lab members of (or hired by) the principal investigator. That said, there are hired “science tech” jobs who monitor a number of different smaller experiments, and of course there are medical personnel hired for the various stations. As you appear to be in Maine I’m guessing you’re a US citizen, which is a requirement for the contract positions.
