I have heard that after you serve your time down there then you get to travel around the South Pacific, like New Zealand, Fiji, Austraila.  Is this true?  How does it work?  Do I have to pay?

Your ticket home is left open.  So after you attend a redeployment meeting, you meet with the travel people to make stops on your way home.  It costs about $75 to stop over at Australia, for instance.  Your expense of staying there and other travel is your own.  But you still have your flight home.  It is a real perk for working in the Antarctic program!
