I just got an e-mail from a guy on Couchsurfing.com that was wondering how he could get down to Antartica next week from the South America. He sounded willing to do just about anything (pay, stow, etc). I suggested that if he was willing to do ANYTHING that he take a contract job;) I don’t know much about the Palmer side of things, having only been a McM guy for two seasons now, so I referred him to this site and its many Antarctic wisened folk. Have fun!

He needs to make his way to Ushuaia, Argentina. This is where most of the tourist ships depart from. There he can book passage on any ship with space available, perhaps at a discount. I haven’t tried this but know others that have. If he’s got some serious moxie he may be able to talk his way on to a private yacht, or maybe get a job on a tourist ship. I have no idea how difficult or easy any of this is, just depends on him being in the right place at the right time.

He won’t be able to get an Antarctic contract job on the American side that quick. He would still have to go through the whole medical process. I’d go with glenn’s ideas.
