Hi guys.
My name is Noel Gillespie, a free lance aviation writer based in Christchurch,New Zealand and have been covering operation Deep Freeze since the late 1950’s. I have just finished a book on the history of VX-6 Squadron with the Antarctic Operations- 1955-99 and at present is with my publishers Infinity Publishing up in PA and should be ready of sale in mid Feb 2006. the book is 8.5″ x 11” in size- 535 pages including over 320 photographs and will sell for $US 35.95.
I have named the book ‘COURAGE SACTIFIC DEVOTION- the squadron’s motto.
It brefly covers the history of antarctic exploration- operation Highjump, the planning ofg Deep Freeze with Admiral Dufek and the squadron’d first CO Eddie Ward- the flight to Christchurch in early December 1955 and the departure for Antarctica on December 20 1955- it is first complete book written on the squadron’s history- told by the squadron guys themselves- a proud group of American naval men and womens- its their story.
The book will be on sale- on line from Amazon.com- Barnes and Noble .com. Borders .com. Books a Million. com. Ingrams systems and book shops world wide.
It also contains a list of all the squadron’s CO’s- a list of all locations named after US Navy personnel- a list of those who gave their lives for science- a list of all aircraft used by VX-6 and as much as possible- what happened to them.
It tells of the hand over to the Air National Guard in 1999.
All those with an interest in the squadron, the navy, aviation, antarctica and many many more will find it very interesting indeed.
The book would not have been possible without the assistance of hundreds of OAE’s.

You should get in contact with the store personnel and see if you can have it sold in the station store. I bet you would sell a bunch.

At last my book-Courage Sacrifice Devotion- the history of the famous United States Navy’s Antarctic during the Navy’s Operation Deep Freeze- VX-6 1955-99. It was published by Infinity Publishing House in Philadelphia.PA and is listed on their web site http://www.buybooksontheweb.com also on Amazon.com- just type in the title or my name and it comes up.
There could be a delay before the book is on sale in retail shops either in New Zealand or the US.
It has 511 pages and over 370 photos and sells for $US35.95 .It is soft cover- and black and white photographs .
I am also puting out an Limited Numbered and Signed vinyl covered edition – limited to 30 copies- this is on high quaily paper and with coloured photographs. I have enclosed an additional 200 odd pages of photographs.
each copy has a photograph of the purchaser-this valable special limited sells for $US260.OO packaging and postage.

In August my wife and went to the reunion in Rhode Island and I was able to collect a large amount of information from talking to the guys. Also we spent four days down at Ocean City ,NJ as guests of Commander Eddie Ward and his family and a chance of looking over a mountain of material he had as the squadron’s first C0 in 1955 -sadly Eddie passed away a week after we me. Also at the end of our US travels, we were invited down to San Diego as guest of Betty-Lou Frankiewicz, wife of the late Commander Eddie Frankiewicz a aviator during DF I II AND III and again looking over his papers-books etc and was given a copy of his log for his three years in Antarctica
So I have revised a second edition-adding over 50 pages of text and maps-at present its with my publishers and should be on sale later in the year or early next year- same price.

Noel GillespieRecently I purchased and received your book “Courage, Sacrifice and Devotion and found a difference–on page 425 in the paperback version there is a photo supposed to be ‘Charlene’ but it is the tail number of ‘Que Sera Sera’–this same photo is used a few pages back for a repair photo(wrong photo in the wrong spot)–‘Charlene’ was left on an iceflow in the Ross Sea in 1962 for disposal.
