ModeratorWell, we have Mike Blachut. Is that close enough?
The winter has been great. Absolutely nothing going on down here. Nobody’s getting in trouble, no medevacs, no storms to speak of, and only 10 weeks till Winfly.
It’s been a great first winter for me.
You coming back for the summer?June 10, 2005 at 11:40 am #2500MN-Sparky
MemberThanks for getting back to me Atlas, yes…Mike Blachut is close enough.
He's like an old soffa down there now. The best thing about Mike is…You
will always have Ice Cream since he keeps that machine running. Is Mike in a
supervisory position down there? Hmmmm…..lets see, 10 weeks left before
winfly….there seems to still be enough time for a storm to hit like last
year. I would like to have been able to return to the Ice this next summer
but since a DR spent some time trimming on my knee this last year it will be
another year before I would clear medical. So hopefully by that time I will
be able to return.Have a great season,
Rick

KeymasterRick, I would apply anyway if you wanted to come down. I think a knee surgury is one of the lesser ones. I’ve known of people who got their knee done during the off season and came back the next. You never know.

KeymasterHi, Rick!
Mike's right – depending on the position you are considering, recent
knee surgery doesn't automatically preclude a PQ. I had an operation
on my knee last May & went to the ice in October. If interested in pursuing it, I'd suggest asking your orthopedist to
write a letter stating the reason for the operation, what was done,
the current status of your knee, projected condition at time of
deployment, and any expected restrictions or limitations. That should
be enough to clear you for most desk or non-physical jobs.Good luck!

KeymasterGoing back to the original title of this thread. Crazy Winterovers. This is turning into the most benign of winters. This was a big construction year with lot’s of new people. Everyone was fearing the worst, but it’s been darn pleasant. No fights, no nuthin. Strange. I hope it keeps up. I think the winter psych evals and background checks are doing a good job of weeding out the violent ones.

MemberHi Atlas,
Sorry it has taken me so long to answer.
I will be coming down with main body. I live in Oregon, a place called Myrtle Point, near Coos Bay on the Southwestern coast.
Glad to hear you are enjoying your winter-over.
Talk to you again.
