Do they have any stationary cycling bikes or other types of training for cyclists in the gym on Mcmurdo Station. If so would it be worth it to bring my own pedals and cycling shoes?

    Thanks,
    Scott

The gyms have standard exercise cycles, but nothing approaching the specialized trainers that the ardent cyclists use. It’s a lot of trouble to mail one down. It’s a big box and may or may not make it down by christmas. If you are staying the summer only I’d just get up early and go to the gym. If you are going to winter you might like your own trainer in your room. In the summer you have the problem of where you would use it. You will have a roommate and you may not have a lot of room for a trainer. There are some people who have sent down bicycles. In mid summer the roads all melt down to the volcanic rock. The road to scott base is a nice ride in nice weather. Stay away from the icy patches.
