    This article talks about some families trying to recover the bodies of crew from a WWII plane that crashed.

    This is the first I’ve heard about this. Anybody know more? (Skua77?)

    Uh, yes. The recovery effort has been under discussion for several years.

    This was Operation Highjump. A PBY crashed. The definitive story on the web for a number of years is here:
    http://www.south-pole.com/p0000153.htm and the appeal for help with the body recovery has been more recently added. There is an excellent print description in the book Americans in Antarctica 1775-1948″, by Kenneth J. Bertrand.

    The subject came up during the ADFA reunion in Madison in June…basically what is being said is there isn’t money in the defense budget for stuff like this.
