KeymasterGreat news…do fill us in about the gig and your progress jumping through the hoops!

ParticipantWintering over at South Pole my first time down! I’m a bit nervous about the Pole PQ simply because I’m a rather large fellow both in height and weight who is a T2 diabetic. I’m not so much worried about the blood test results/physical as I get most of the stuff they test for checked quarterly as is and I’m well within the normal ranges even for someone without diabetes and I spend time hiking at altitude ~8000 feetish already. My position is a desk job so I’m hoping being a big guy won’t be an issue as long as my other numbers check out.

KeymasterCongrats on the offer.
AKAIK, size and weight don’t matter. What’s important is your overall health, so the numbers gotta be okay.

ParticipantThat makes me feel a little bit better 🙂 I’ll keep you guys updated!

ParticipantGot my lab results back today. Everything was fine except triglycerides which were a little high. Hoping that’s not something they are picky on!
August 7, 2015 at 3:21 pm #11825Sciencetech
KeymasterYay! Hard to say how picky they will be.
A lot of people have high cholesterol. If it’s only a little bit elevated it probably won’t be a problem. Really high levels can be a PQ show-stopper.
August 7, 2015 at 4:19 pm #11826TheORKINMan
ParticipantNah my total cholesterol is great 130ish. Ldl is 60ish so both are way into the good side of the range. Triglycerides we’re 175ish which according to most sites is in the borderline high range

MemberCongrats! I bet you are really excited and I know it must feel amazing. Wintering over?? So you’ll go down soon and stay down for the whole year, am I reading that right? Ha ha, what’s your address, I’ll send you some apples (they keep!)
August 10, 2015 at 1:27 am #22083TheORKINMan
ParticipantYep. November to November. I’m not sure apples is a good idea. They may keep but for 4+ weeks?
August 15, 2015 at 3:11 am #22084TheORKINMan
ParticipantMeh now I’m worried. My doctor did a precautionary treadmill cardio stress test that came back all good. But my sonogram came back with “small mobile echogenic areas”. They won’t say they are stones but my doctor wants me to redo it in three weeks. If they turn out to be stones I’m pretty sure they make you remove the gallbladder for that and we’d be well into September before I could get that done :\

ParticipantJust giving one more update. I’m on my way in a few weeks! Cleared all the hurdles and I’m heading to the ice this season! Super stoked!

ParticipantCongrats! I am wintering at Pole this year as well. I’ve been trying since 2009. Just got to Denver for training today. I’m guessing I’ll meet you soon.
