MemberA friend of mine’s father, who was a ham, died and left him some pictures. The son asked I was interested in them as I’m prior military and worked in communications. I hate to see them thrown out so I’m trying to find someone to give the photos to who would really appreciate them. Do you know of anyone?
All of them are from about 1958-1960. Apparently he talked to members of Operation Deep Freeze regularly and the pictures were sent to him as a QSL.
The pictures are of the Admundsen-Scott base, KC4USV radio shack (maybe), and members of KC4USV during Operation Deep Freeze IV 1958-1960.
Here are links to scans of the photos:

KeymasterHold on to them a bit. During the summer we have an historical assn. It’s active some years and not so much in others. I’ll ask around and see if there is anyone who might take them here. The denver office might like them as well. At the very least I would take the KC4USV photos and hang them in the ham shack here.
Keep in touch about this.

MemberI worked with a Plumber Foreman during the 2002-2003 summer season that was
part of Operation Deep Freeze during the early years. I know he was one of
the guys that set up the first camp at Palmer Station with the seabee's. I
will try to remember his name for you….but this may take a while.Rick

KeymasterHey Keith,
Those are definitely some neat pictures—nowadays everyone has internet access and digital cameras, but good shots of the ice from the old days are hard to find!I’m obviously prejudiced towards the Pole pictures 🙂 I can tell you that the second picture with autographs was also from the 1958 winter based on the names of the folks who signed it. The first picture with all the snowdrifts is great too–stuff still drifts up around here like that after a good blow.
Thanks for sharing (got any more?)

KeymasterI heard the South Pole dome is being dismantled soon and will be brought to Port Hueneme Ca to be part of the SeaBee museum. They might like the photos.
