MemberSo lets say we entered an application and resume online.
We receive an email and reply to express our interest.
Any ideas on what happens and in what timeframe?
Just curious.

KeymasterJames, the process has changed a little this year. HR is taking a more direct role in the hiring process and as a result nobody really knows the new procedures. Maybe some of the others applying this year can give their experiences.

ModeratorHere’s what I’ve discovered so far…
RPSC has started using Quest for its pre-employment drug screens. There are affiliates all over the place. HR will e-mail you a .pdf file to printout, and take with you, because they can now do the chain of custody stuff online.
First problem encounterd is that not ever Quest office has this capability. So, after visiting two Quest affiliates, handing them my .pdf document, and getting politely turned away, HR sent me the official Chain of Custody paperwork, and we were able to complete the task that way. Seems not all Quest offices have that online capability. Contact Denver HR if you have any problems – not Medical.
Second, it looks like they’d prefer us to go to our local LabCorp for our blood draws. Verified this with Medical, as they won’t automatically send you the draw kits anymore. So, in addition to having the PQ exam done by your doc, you’ll need to make an appointment with LabCorp for your blood draw.
I’ll keep you posted as this annual event progresses…

MemberI just filled out the forms for HireRight and I had a couple of questions.
1) Do they make the previous year’s employees watch and enter via rayjobs (IE when the jobs are pulled are you guys screwed?)
2) Any idea how long this process goes?
My best friend impressed them at the job fair but they said the job would be
relisted for more apps… Still hasn’t shown.. He is bumming..

ModeratorIn answer to your questions…
1) Incumbent employees apply for their jobs (yes, we have to apply every year) through RayCats. That’s the site for current Raytheon employees. We’re allowed to do so until the date when the openings ‘go public’.
2) The process is prepetual, and entirely in the hands of the Hiring Manager, and HR Recruiter. Anything can slow them down – too many applicants, not enough applicants, going on vacation, emergency surgery, etc. . Be patient, but persistent. If you have someone’s name in the company, keep in touch with them, but no more than one e-mail a week. There’s a fine line between persistence, and buggin’ the crap outta someone.
Hope this helps.

MemberSo the interviewer at the Job Fair mentioned that a few folks would be returning from last summer. Is there is a chance that they could have been locked out when the number of apps for the job hit 50?
April 11, 2008 at 3:57 am #5216MightyAtlas
ModeratorI checked with DHQ, and the 50-app lockout is totally untrue.
So no, no one would get ‘locked out’ from applying. HR may close the position if they want/need to, but it has to be done manually.
Sorry to dispel rumors. Damn that Chuck Kimball…April 11, 2008 at 4:21 am #5217mrguard
MemberInteresting… Okay… My best friend is bumming right now.. IT told him at the job fair he had the qualifications for the IT positions he was there for and that the jobs would be back on Rayjobs and he still hasn’t seen them return lol.
I appreciate all of your help..

ModeratorAh, I know the Supervisor. He’s kind of an ass. Better your friend looks for something else.
Hey, I didn’t mention names…April 11, 2008 at 6:28 am #5221MightyAtlas
ModeratorAs far as I know, there are four Tech positions available. Two are for the Town, and two are for the Crary Science Center. Crary requires Mac experience (even though they’re not ‘real’ computers), and work closely with grantees and scientists. The Town Techs take care of the rest of McMurdo, and all the support people, and agencies.
Of course, there may be an opening at Pole, but they’re 800 miles away, and the atmosphere (literally and figuratively) is quite different.
And Palmer, well…it isn’t really a part of the continent, being waaaaaay up on the Penninsula. They grow bananas up there.April 11, 2008 at 9:54 am #5222SweetJeri1
MemberYeah I know that supervisor too. He is an ass!! But “totally awesome” at the same time. Amazing how that works. I’ve got my paperwork for tech position next season at Pole, but still kinda on the fence about it. Oh well, guess when August comes around I’ll have to decide if i need some money or not. Love ya Atlas. Mean it!!
