MemberOn the advice of someone I know I searched the net for temp jobs, and i saw Antarctica as a location on one site, and thats how i found it. Now I think I might be in with this job, but im still looking for other jobs. I want a real good paying dangerous mission like Iraq or some other location like it. The thing is that no matter what site i search or whatever keywords i put in the search engine, i get no results. I cant even find THIS job anywhere anymore.

KeymasterCan’t help you with the dangerous jobs. maybe come here as the blaster.
Antarctica is a safe place. They go through a lot of trouble to insure you don’t get hurt. Don’t follow the rules and you are a lot closer to the edge, though. There have been too many body bags out of here over the years. Mostly from doing stupid things. More if you want later.

MemberNo no, I dont want to be dangerous, its just those are the high paying ones. I have no interest in being dangerous in Antarctica or any other place, but I wanna make the bucks ya know.

KeymasterThere’s an old Ice expression that goes something like, “Want a raise? Go back for second helpings of food.”
No, it’s not dangerous here (unless getting fat and torpid is considered a dangerous mission), but they make up for it with lower-than-average pay. Wheeee!

KeymasterGlenn’s right about the ice jobs 🙂
For a few other (and hotter) places to look, here’s a short list that one Polie put together:

Bear in mind that Sean found Afghanistan a bit too dangerous and bailed out last month.

KeymasterThe Antarctic Program isn’t one of those places where a mechanic can earn 300,000 dollars a year. For that I think you have to go somewhere where your life is on the line. In general the wages here will be slightly less than what you make in the states for the same job.
That being said, most people put far more money in the bank while working here than if they worked at home. You make the most if you don’t have home expenses back in the states. Here all your housing, food, electricity, gas etc are all free. It becomes money in your pocket, because it’s all things you would pay out of your salary back home. Like Glenn said, if you want a raise eat more.
It’s less lucrative if you have a house and family that you will still be paying for once you come to McM.
Many if not most of the people here have become debt free because of the program. You come here get amost everything you need free, take all your salary and pay off your bills the first year.

KeymasterHi Mike. Hi Glenn, how’s the sax? Operatorguy, It sounds like this will be your first international contract. If it’s “bucks” you’re looking for, go to kbrjobs.com and come here to Iraq. They’ll hire just about anyone and it pays better than the Ice. Really good offers aren’t gonna come ’till you’ve completed your first full contract, anywhere, and established yourself as being suited to this… rigorous lifestyle. Almost 9 months in Iraq, including convoy driving, and I still think a winter at McMurdo is potentially more dangerous. Anyway, perhaps I’m too romantic about my experiences, but the Ice is destiny, so if bucks is the primary concern, come to Iraq, the pay’s better, and so is the food.(sorry)

KeymasterHi John. No sax at Palmer… not even a bass guitar. Urk. But the food and scenery make up for it. Sara K. is coming down in September, did you hear? This will be her third station… she’s doing the “USAP tri-fecta”, three stations in three seasons or close to it.
Have fun over there. Not my cup of tea, I must say. Perhaps a winter in Antarctica is more dangerous than where you are, but at least when Mother Nature attacks it isn’t personal.

KeymasterHi, John![/font:f482w2zi]
I was just checking out the site you mentioned for contract positions in [/font:f482w2zi]Iraq[/font:f482w2zi] & surrounding areas. Any guesses as to how much the paramedic positions pay over there? For enough cash, I’d be game…[/font:f482w2zi]
Thanks for the link![/font:f482w2zi]
