MemberI’m staying in Aurora too. I can’t remember the name of the hotel off the top of my head though. I was supposed to be going with a friend, but they backed out last minute so it’s just me.
I’ve never posted on here, but I read it now and then. Anyone else as incredibly nervous as I am about the job fair?April 7, 2005 at 3:03 am #2375thepooles98
KeymasterGood luck everyone.

MemberHey!
I’m in the library now in Aurora checking some email and stuff. I made it into denver last night. It’s now 11:23am…and I’m about to leave here to go to the job fair. I had to map out directions. Wish me Luck..and good luck to everyone else.

KeymasterBy now the job fair should be in full swing. When it’s over let us know what depts seemed interested. The fun part for us down here is to watch the rest of the process. To meet you folks in Cheech or here when I’m leaving and you are coming in is tops as well. I’ll buy you a drink at Baileys Bar in Christchurch if we are in the same place at the same time.
Just remember, if anyone seems interested in you get their name and ask permission to keep in touch. Don’t be discouraged if they say they have no positions open at this point. It’ s incredible how many positions open up at the last minute.
Don’t be a pest , but keep in regular contact.
If you do get a bite and want to know more about the particular job, I’ll see if I can find someone willing to tell their experience.
good luck

MemberHey Mike,
Sounds great I hope I get the opportunity to meet up with you in NZ to have a drink! I havent heard anything about the jobs yet…its only been a matter of days…but some people are already hearing stuff..so I hope they still have me in mind…I heard that 12,000 people apply and only 5% get accepted. I hope I’m in the running! I met some people at the job fair on Friday…and we talked most of the time and stood in line and stuff. Then we exchanged info…and I left….I later when down to Colorado Springs that day which is about an hour or so South of Denver…and I went to the Garden of the Gods Park (really neat place) and I met them there again…That was really a coincidence to meet again like that at the same place and same time that far away…So I have some hope that we all are destined to go…lol…Thanks Mike for all the help you have given everyone on the board here.

KeymasterI’ve been to the Garden of the Gods a couple of times. Really neat place. Another neat place is the dinosaur highway or dinosaur ridge in the red rocks area just west of Denver. Lots of dino tracks.
Remember you are just one of the 12000. If you wait to hear from them you may not. Keep in touch with the people who said it was ok to do so. It keeps you closer to the top of the list.

MemberDo you happen to have the contact info? I didnt get any contact info while I was there…

MemberI have gotten 2 emails …one as a GA…and one for Waste Management…the WM email stated that he has had a lot of turn around from people that have already done the program…and they arent looking for anyone at this time. The other position for the GA email stated the pay and that will be looking for some GA as the Deploying date gets closer…and I wrote the GA position *Grethen* an email back telling her how much I would love to go and my experience….and that I’m willing to work long hard hours…etc. But no job offer yet.

MemberJeff,
I got the same e-mail from Waste-I am a returnee who was hoping to work there also! It appears tight this season. I am hoping to go back in my old job as janitor, so I’ve e-mailed that supervisor & am awaiting a return call. I did an excellent job according to my evals, & am still waiting!
My advice is to e-mail & call GA person once a week as that is probably the most diverse, fun job down there! The GAs were the coolest people!
I had a high paying job (here in Austin) & property to lease so I really had people just chomping at the bit for me to make a decision about when I was going to the Ice. I never lost hope, and you NEVER know what is going on in the minds of the hiring depts….just keep “acting as if” you’re going. I have my recently unpacked Ice suitcases sitting in my living room as a talisman that I am going back! And apparently, I am in the same situation I was last year: waiting!

MemberHey Marsha,
Thanks for the advice…the only email I have for RPS is the general email at raycats…and that wont work…I’ve got my fingers crossed and I hope I get to go…I hope you get the position you want too 😉

KeymasterIf anyone that you spoke to gave the ok to keep in touch, now is the time to do it. If they gave a name give them a call and ask for an email address. Be persistant but not a pest and remember a no only means right at this moment. It’s likely that out of the first group of people that gets hired there will be a number who don’t pass the physical or who for personal reasons decide not to come down. Shoot for an alternate position if you can so you can get the physical out of the way.
