I’ve been “In review” status for a network tech job on an icebreaker for months now. it once canceled.. then reopened and I was told to reapply. Now I’m waiting again. Any idea what is going on.. am I on a waiting list? I was laid off a week before Xmas.. and need to get something going. hehe I can’t get an answer to any kind of status from the person who emailed me at raycats. If I got the job.. whats the chance of getting to come back for it again? How long is the contract for that job?

So it might be a while before things settle down, and they get caught up on their hiring. Since he’s gone now, I don’t have any names for you to try to talk to at the moment.
I have the same situation for the Construction /Maintance Manager South Pole (winter ) the lady that sent my resume too the Hiring Manager has told me that the Hiring Manager has been at the South Pole Station since the first of December and does not have time . Seem to me they need a new Hiring Manager if he is going too work at the Station rather than do what he has been hired for .
I don’t think they care that we are Human and also and have feelings . I believe there is no way they can find anyone with the experience I have for this position . I have 30 years in the construction industry business . I have trained several engineer on field work after they have there degree I also have Wintered Over with the Navy Seabees for 14 months . Raytheon took over from the Seabees in 1989 Seabees built everything that was there up until 1889, starting with the Construction of Little America . In mid-1946 Seabees were assigned the task of constructing facilities on Bikini Atoll in preparation for the historic atomic bomb tests there. That same year Operation “High Jump” brought Seabees to Antarctica for the first time. An initial detachment of 173 men accompanied Admiral Richard Byrd to Little America to build new facilities and unload supplies and equipment.
I have felt that they are deny me employment because of my age ,which is illegal . But I guess not if you are getting the same treatment as I am . I understand and accept that they have thousand of application but they have a job too do as you and I ,and if they can’t do it they need too be replace . There is no one that can’t be replaced .

http://www.myspace.com/prettyboyfloydiiiWe got the word a couple of days ago that the NSF budget was cut back again for the 08 season. Nobody knows the impact at this point, but expect the winter to be scaled back somewhat. This could be the root of the hiring delays.
MI’ve been working some part time jobs.. but haven’t had anything steady. I recently had to move out of where I am living… and in a few days I’ll be living out of my van. I saw some of the jobs are reopening. I really could use something with room and board to get back up on my feet.I wonder what my chances with the computer tech jobs would be.. 🙂 I would be willing to do any kind of work. Anyone I can talk to?
Most station-based positions being posted now are for jobs that will start in this coming August (“WINFLY”) or October (“Main Body”).
Vessel positions may open at any time; contract length for newbies is usually one or two consecutive cruises — 30-60 days. The short initial length is to see how well the employee works on a ship before offering them a longer contract. Work weeks are 12×7, not including hazard pay for explosive, projectile sea-sickness. The Marine department, especially Vessel IT, has been in turmoil since late last year. I’m not sure if the dust has settled yet so it’s unclear whether you’ll get a timely response from them.
Does anyone have info on when the Job fair is?
It sounds like you don’t have the money to go to Denver, but that’s a way to get yourself noticed.
MikeKasper1943. The current group of HR people are rather clueless. If you don’t fit exactly into there tunnel vision box they will discard you. So this has created “resume fluffing”, adjusting resumes to fit the time frames etc. I don’t think age is that big a factor because I am not a spring chicken and nether are a lot of folks that go to Pole. Actually in the hiring process they are not suppose to ask age but they will see it when the PQ process starts.
In my opponion the thing you call ( resume fluffing ) goes a long way in showing the personalty of a person .
You have your top resume fluffers , big braggers that streach the truth .
And you have your bottom ( fluffers) timid , don’t bragg about themselves .
and a lot of different personality in between . I like to think I am somewhere in between .
I keep revising my Resume too stand out for a certain job . I try not to fluff my resume and I never lie about anything on my resume . To me it is very hard to write his own resume .Now a Professional Resume writter does a lot of fluffing . But every time I rewrite my resume I have experience at. This Like this last time I got to reading it and thinking that I have experience design Air Condition Systems that I had forgot about .
But the Hiring Manager has a very tough job trying too sort thru all of these .
Dealing with people is the hardest job you will ever have
