ParticipantBut I got an email from the generic USAP email address on the LM website stating that LM/Nana/GHG/PAE will be posting jobs for the 2013-2014 summer season at some point in the next three weeks.

MemberPAE actually posted 9 pages worth of jobs (~160 different ones) back on January 9th to the 15th. It looks like pretty much every job that they hire for was posted and I would assume they are for the 2013-2014 summer season. LM doesn’t really post too many contract/seasonal jobs, some FT jobs here and there and some science support seasonal jobs when needed.

ParticipantYeah I applied to a bunch of the PAE listings, but considering many of the hiring managers etc… would be on the ice for another month when they were posted I assumed they were winter positions. GHG and Nana definitely have not posted anything yet AFAIK though.

MemberWhile a few could have been W/O positions, I just assumed they were almost all for next summer. Think about Pole which closes now and McMurdo which closes soon, while people have been hired in under a month in the past, I think most winter folks were hired back in December, maybe early January so they had time to go through the applicants and get PQed, so they can be on the ice by the end of January or early February at the latest. Palmer’s a whole other case, since there’s still ships until June.
I figure PAE posted the summer jobs in early to mid January (who knows when they were posted internally, if at all, for the current people already down there that want to come back) so by the time the FT/hiring managers that deployed make it back to Denver, say in late February or early March after some RandR, they can start going through the applicants, if the jobs haven’t been already taken by returnees.

True, but Palmer is mostly on a 6-month rotation with the turnover crews coming in September and March. Occasionally they’ll hire someone mid-season, for instance a resident marine tech, but that’s about it. Except for a couple positions, Palmer’s winter crew is complete.
Since hiring got off to such a late start after the contract change, I wouldn’t be surprised if all the contractors made an effort to start collecting applications early this year (even if hiring doesn’t get rolling until April or thereabouts).

You’re correct, I should have mentioned that most, if not all of Palmer’s winter 2013 crew are probably already hired, considering some just went through fire school last week, and are going through OSAR next week. In addition the first winter turn-over boat (LMG 13-03) is leaving Punta Arenas, Chile on March 10th. You forgot to mention that some crazy people like Otter get to do a 9-month rotation at Palmer!

KeymasterOtter’s a special case. :->
The Marine department hires all the time, although it can be hard for a new person to wedge their way in. Too few positions, too many repeat offenders.
So yeah, most (if not all) of the posted jobs are probably for next summer. Seems prudent to start applying now. I’ve already seen managers pinging people about hiring for next year.

ParticipantLooks like Nana has posted their positions for 13-14 as well. Just fired off several apps there as well. Just waiting on GHG which would be my ideal employer on the ice since I work in IT. But I’ll take whatever I can get 😛

MemberI didn’t realize NANA was continuing with The Program this year. I checked their site and can’t seem to find any positions. Does anyone have any pointers in this search? Thank you.

KeymasterHmmm. Pvt, there are too many partnerships and acronyms and they keep changing. NANA is not involved in the current contract. The food services, janitorial retail and similar jobs are now under Gana-A’Yoo Services Corporation (GSC), and the hiring website is that of their partner, ESS Support Services. http://essalaska.com/opportunities.htm

ParticipantSorry I meant Gana not Nana 😛 Ive been trying to be proactive and reach out to find HR people etc… to hopefully maximize my chances as they might be more likely to forward a resume if its someone theyve been talking with.
Ive had some success at networking and at least getting responses to inquiries from LM and the current set of contractors. Towards the end of Raytheon’s tenure email responses were nesrly non-existant.

Been there. They were probably sitting around the office or elsewhere waiting to be laid off.
Last year at this time the contracts had just been awarded and things were a bit frantic and confusing. It looks like the hiring process is a bit more organized this time around. Good luck!

Haha, that what I thought you meant by I had to ask. Thanks for clearing things up SKka and OrkinMan. I’ve already applied to PAE and Gana, I’ll try getting in contact with HR.
Skua, I posted in another thread that is still pending approval from a moderator regarding the 2013-14 season.
