KeymasterI haven’t heard yet. It’s usually held at the end of march or beginning of April. If you didn’t do it last time, get the names of the people you talk to and ask permission to call them back. Then do it. If you got names from last year email them that you are still interested. They’ll tell you when the fair is.

ModeratorYou know it! Just finishing up a summer-winter-summer. Really looking forward to a long break. (Okay, I did take about seven weeks off at Winfly, but it wasn’t near long enough).
Where are you at these days?February 1, 2006 at 12:59 pm #2853MN-Sparky
MemberIm hiding in northern MN, have been working fairly steady but I realize now
that I should have applied for this summer run down there, I could have made
a late november showing since work fell apart up here again.Summer/winter/summer…..your nuts! That is a long time to sit on an Ice
cube 😉 Anything out of the ordinary and exciting happen down there this
summer? I cant open the “Sun” since it now takes high-speed access and im
still battling dial-up. Yes it stinks.Rick

MemberAs this place gets by mostly on word of mouth and many have bad mouthed it this year, I think its harder to get people in the program and thats why we have such a shortage of winter over people here this year as well as a higher rate of new folks. I have recommended it to a few friends for next season but its harder being only a 1 day job fair and I think they need to spend more time and energy on getting the people in that they need.
Atlas. Drop me a line, my power supply went out, need a repair job, hahaha.

MemberSorry for the delay in responding. lots of new people this year as we lost a lot of oldtimers last year and another bunch this year also. We are having a lot say they will not return again because of bad ordering and lack of knowledge during the current LDB and Power plant projects here. Just a bad year in general and then they messed up the alcohol order so that instead of having a drink with friends and venting, people were having to go to the bars and vent there and I have heard of so many near fights because of it. Hopefully they will have their act together again now the ship is here again.
We still have a shortage of winter people but its looking like they may manage it somehow or other, again.
I ahve suggested to a few friends to come here but they are unlikely to be able to make the job fair and I know its not the only way to get here, I never heard of it until I was alerady here, but I know it helps a lot though. Pity they do not have regional fairs in other places so more people can get through the paperwork.

MemberThanks Brendan….McMurdo is still an interesting place to experiance, too
bad management still has some issues that cause conflict with the contract
personel. It just makes life more difficult when working in such a remote
location. Its not a harsh continent, we have invested sooo much money in
that program over the years/decades….its a very hospitable place because
of our tax dollars being spent down there.Rick

KeymasterSparky,
As you are well aware, Years in which big buildings are being built tax the whole system. Since it can take a year or more to get replacement parts if a wrong item is purchased, things can go sour fast for the construction crews if the wrong item is purchased. Same with alcohol, food etc. Non construction years are generally better.

KeymasterOkayyy…
It’s not easy to find, but I did happen upon the RPSC job fair page…
http://www.rayjobs.com/index.cfm?NavID=27
I too am surprised that the Denver event is only on one day this year, a Friday…
