I have some questions that I am hoping can be answered. I will be attending the job fair this coming April 7. Could anyone please give me an idea how the fair is structured. I have been to hiring fairs in the past where recruiters sat at tables and signs informed attendees who these people are and the firm/position that they are representing. Does Raytheon follow a similar structure?

Is there a protocol for meeting recruiters for the first time or is it a simple handshake/intro, and face-to-face discussion?

Are you allowed to ask specific questions relevant to a position such as a job overview – i.e. greater detail than posted job description, salary, benefits, advancement potential etc during this time, or only when a position/contract has been offered?

Lastly, are there talks put on by various Raytheon/NSF reps detailing life at the various research stations and on the vessels?

    Thanks for the time,

    Rob

Hi Rob, welcome to the board.

I haven’t been to the job fair in years but I suspect it hasn’t changed much. Department managers stand or sit behind tables with the name of their department on it (“Logistics”, “IT”, “Facilities”, etc) and collect resumes from applicants. It’s basically a meet-and-greet, and a chance for applicants to network — all informal, handshake and chat sort of thing. Be sure to get phone numbers and email addresses so you can bug them later if you don’t hear from anyone.

And yes, you can ask any question you like, and are encouraged to do so. They may not answer salary questions but you can try anyway.

There’s a lot of other threads on this board and over on Mike’s (http://groups.msn.com/Antarcticmemories/leaveamessage.msnw) that discuss the job fair. If you poke around a bit you may get some additional perspectives.

    Good luck!
