    Hello All,

Suggestions posted here for what to do at and after the Job Fair have yielded a job offer (yay! and Thanks!).

So now the current question: What all is involved in the PQ? I’ve seen comments from people who have been disqualified at this point in the process.

    Thanks,
    Webster

Webster, congratulations!  What job will you be doing?
The PQ process is a basic physical and dental examination.  Urine for drugs, a random urine, blood drawn for basic screening, dental exam with x-rays, complete hands-on physical examination,   Older folks, like me, must have an EKG, chest x-ray, treadmill stress test.  Females must have a PAP and mammogram.
If you’re in good helth and have taken care of dental problems as they arise, you’ll have no problems.  Just make sure you make your appointments as soon as you get the information!  Very important!!  Then, after you turn in your reports, if there is a problem, it may be able to be taken care of so you can still PQ.
    Good luck,
    Sharon

    Yeah
I love this time of year. It’s been years since I went through my first hiring process. I’m always afraid that as the old people leave and new ones come on that the focus of how they hire will have changed. It sounds like the advice given here is still  working.

Webster,  The PQ process is the most important part of what is to come. As Sharon said, even if you flunk, you can retest or get something fixed, provided you have enough time. For that reason, make getting through the process your priority.

It is the nature of medical tests to vary from test to test. You can have normal blood pressure, but it’s high only on the day of the test, etc etc. It’s been said that the physical is analogous to an astronaut physical. They test everything in your blood samples. Things you’ve never heard of before. In many cases even if you do flunk, you can apply for a waiver. Again you need lots of time, so also again, get your tests done fast.

Another rare but it does happen problem that can creep up, has to do with the medical dept processing thousands of medical applications in the course of a few weeks. It is inevitable that some get lost.  Another rare one is that the whole package gets lost in the mail and never reaches the USAP office. Again you’ll have to redo the tests.

good luck Webster and keep us informed. By the way what were you hired for

They’ll also do a ‘turn your head, and cough’ check, and, depending on your age, a ‘bend over at the waist, and try to relax’ check.

Looking forward to my PQ for a Winfly deployment…as always.

Looks like I’m leaving at Winfly to be back for the summer. Should be a nice crowd as always. Coming down without Lorie this year. She’s trying for a PTH job again. I’m not looking forward to the roomate thing. Know anyone else who likes to get up at 430 in the morning?

    Thanks for the feedback.

Do they want mammograms for every female? Or is there an age cut-off? Not that I don’t dig the stories I’ve heard about ’em… And do you do the exams through your own health plan, or through someone associated with raytheon?

I’m looking to be as on top of it as I can, time-wise. I’m waiting for my offer letter, and when that’s been sent in, my boss-to-be said I’d get my PQ stuff. I’m being hired as Cargo Coordinator at Pole.

Ooh, thinking of health plans… what happens to the health insurance I’m covered with right now? Do I still pay for it while I’m covered by Raytheon? Can I suspend it and then pick it up again once I’m off the ice?

    Thanks,
    Webster (who is a girl)

You get your physical and dental exams with your own caregivers, unless you live in the Denver area.  Mammograms – baseline at 35, every two years 40-49, yearly after 50.
That’s between you and your own insurance how to handle the period you’re covered by Raytheon.  If you drop your personal coverage, will they re-instate you when you return?  That’s a question to ask.
I just got my contract and drug screening packet.

    Hi Sharon,

“Unless you live in the Denver area”? I do. Is there a facility here to get the physical?

    Thanks,
    Webster

I’m under the impression there is, from colleagues on the Ice. Call Raytheon for details. This is the best I can advise. Sharon

Call the main office medical dept and see if they can get you into one of the local doctors who do the meds for them.

To PQ in Denver, You can call the Raytheon medical dept at HQ. They will
give you the phone number for Dr Katz (Md) and Dr Anderson (dental). They
will do the exams and direct bill Raytheon. There is also a place where you
can do chest x-rays and have it direct billed.
