    Hi Everyone,

I am writing on behalf of my daughter. She is currently working in Alaska (line cook) and does not have frequent access to the internet (or phones or electricity).

Her contract there is up in early September. Recently she applied for a production cook job in Antarctica. She also sent a letter with her resume that stated that she would be interested in any available positions.

Is there a possibility of her getting hired for the 2004 winter season? I don’t know if she should focus on Antarctica or select another location. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks everyone!

Well you never know about last minute positions. I would certainly tell her to try and get in touch with the people doing the hiring. It pretty difficult in any corporation to get past the hr dept, but who knows.

If you read back in the old posts you’ll see that the most effective way to get a foot in the door is to attend the job fair in April and then keep in touch with the hiring managers.

That’s not to say that there aren’t numerous people who get hired at the last minute because someone dropped out or didn’t pass the physicals. Tell her to be persistant, don’t give up and be prepared leave within a few weeks if she gets a last minute offer.

Thanks Mike. If she doesn’t get in this season, I will make sure that she goes to the job fair in April.

Do you know how we will know if there is a last minute drop-out?

    Thanks!
