MemberHey everyone,
I haven’t been on this board in a while, but am ready to get back into the swing of things. I think I am going to return to the Ice next year. I just looked through the posts here and it looks like rayjobs posts new jobs on March 1st. I plan to apply then and jump through all those tedious hoops. If anyone has any job recommendations, or any news about what has changed while I’ve been gone for the last 3 years, feel free to share.
I’ve really missed the Ice!

KeymasterI can’t believe that anyone actually gets hired, especially new people, considering all of the hoops that are out there to be negotiated. Unless of course they’ve spent some time reading up on this message board.
I made it through all of the hoops in a couple of weeks in January but as only an alternate, so Pole is closing this weekend and Bill Spindler is in Texas.
Good luck to you Zondra, I too will be perusing the list of jobs on 1 March. Perhaps our paths will cross yet.
And allow me to take this opportunity to thank Mike Poole yet once more for setting up this amazingly comprehensive site, along with Will and Glenn for keeping it alive.

KeymasterAll the standard hoops are still in place. They didn’t drop any as far as I can tell. If you are looking to get into your old job, I’d give MM a call and let him know to watch for your application. Most of the office people are leaving the ice now and will be traveling for the next week or so. March 1st is supposedly the day, so camp at the computer and be one of the first to apply when the jobs come up.
What time they start posting is anyones guess, I’d be watching all day.
From previous seasons, expect the job to fill up right away as thousands of unqualified people apply and get rejected or turn down the jobs. Historically, most jobs will continually pop up over the coming months as jobs reopen.

MemberThanks for the info, Mike. I already sent MM an email, but haven’t heard back from him. I used the account that I’d always had for him: M.M@usap.gov (spelling out his name… I’m just skipping that part on this public internet forum)… then I read that the email format has changed, so I re-sent him an email to M.M.Contractor@usap.gov ….will/did he get that one? It could just be that he got the email and hasn’t replied, BUT maybe he never heard from me? I do realize that it’s a bad time of the season to be trying to get ahold of anyone. I figure he’ll be back in the office at the end of the month & will try giving him a call then.
I’m at work 7:00am – 5:00 pm M-F (Denver time), and they block out a lot of our internet at this job, and so I am unable to get onto the rayjobs website all day. Maybe they’ll be posted first thing in the morning so I can apply before work? Or maybe some jobs(like my old job) will still be open at 5:00 when I get home? Hmmm…. It seems so silly to have to be tied down to a certain time on a certain day. MM said he’d hire me back if I ever wanted to come back.
Hoop hoops hoops. I thought I was done with all those silly hoops. I didn’t realize I’d be coming back so soon.

KeymasterAt this point remember that other people are now entrenched in your old job. You will more than likely need to apply as a materialsperson again. MM is probably still traveling. Not sure when he’s coming back. I would try a phone call as well as email. Hope to see you back.

KeymasterI can confirm that MM is, indeed, still traveling. He was sighted at an airport today. 😉

MemberYeah, I figured someone else is probably already entrenched in my old job by now… but who knows, maybe they aren’t planning on coming back next season. I’ve emailed a few of my friends still down there, but no one has told me who’s been doing my old job (I’m just curious, really). I don’t feel like I necessarily need my old job back, but it is definetly an option. I kind of would like to try out the South Pole if I can get a job there. I’ve had a few suggestions for jobs down there. I’m looking into any/all jobs that I’m qualified for, and plan to click on the “Submit” button on the rayjobs sight multiple times on March 1st.
Hey, m0loch – was MM heading north towards Denver, or towards some tropical beach somewhere? OR unknown. Just curious. He’s probably my best bet at getting a job, either my old job, or a Materialsperson job.
OK, back to writing cover letters and polishing up my resume…

KeymasterYo Z…I’m reluctant to post any third party’s location….but, you’re friends with Marsha and I on Facebook so I’m sure you can figure out which airport I (we) was (were) at

MemberThanks m0loch, that answers my question. And it helped me figure out who you actually are – putting a face to a user name….

MemberOne would think the contractor would give points to anyone who can track their way through all these hoops and figure out who is who…..well one would hope the contractor would give credit. Of course, one would hope the contractor would come up with a far easier and straight forward system for folks with previous experience in the program to get their resume into the system directly without having to go through all these hoops. Just glad I didn’t have to…..well I had other hoops to jump through.
And when you figure out that one send me a PM. 😀

ModeratorJust an FYI – ITT’s almost the same. Do this, do that, wait, wait, wait, why didn’t you do this and/or that?
March 1, 2010 at 5:28 pm #10364Zondra
MemberWell, I did it… I applied for a whole slew of jobs on the Rayjobs site. Now I’ll just wait and see what happens. I noticed that my old job was not posted, so either someone on the Ice has already signed a contract to do that job, or else they cut it. Oh, well – there are plenty of other jobs that I’m qualified for, so we’ll see if any of those pan out.
