Greet9ing… Just discovered this board and want to say Hello to all OAE’s. Wintered at the Pole in ’73 and then at McM in ’80. and would do it all over again if I only could!

    Hi Gerald…

Hey, some of us Polies HAVE wintered again, so don’t give up that quickly. My first winter was in 1977, my second was in 2005. You do the math. And I hope to be back in about a month for 2008 if I can figure out how to get past those folks with white coats, dental instruments…:D

Welcome aboard…hey, one thing that has been our special project is to get ALL of the Pole w/o pictures up on the wall of the new station (which gets officially dedicated this Saturday the 12th!) Anyway, do you think you’ve got a winterover group picture around somewhere you can share with us???

So far all of the winterover pictures we have are hanging on the hall wall, but for 1973 all we have is a list of names: http://www.southpolestation.com/trivia/igy2/1973.html

    Thanks…

    Bill,
I do in fact have a Winter Over Picture from ’73…. I’ll have get it out and see if I can scan it to a jpg…. When I’ve got that done, I’ll let you know and you can tell me where to send it…. I do have to wonder what happened to the picutures that were in the Dome.. Last time I was out there, they were all in their own little building from ’57 on, including the ’63 and ’73 crew… My handle at the Pole was “Super Wrench”… Take care and thanks for the reply.

    Gerald…
When the Navy left, most of the old photos must have disappeared, since there were very few mementos (and NO group pictures) when I was there in 1977. Where did you last see the photos?

Anyway, we do need your picture to help complete the collection–here is the Antarctic Sun story about the Polie rogues gallery: http://antarcticsun.usap.gov/features/contentHandler.cfm?id=1208

I’ll send you a private email about how to get the 1973 photo to the station…

    YAAAYYYY!
