Should I contact the Ice?

So, I’ve managed to get ahold of a phone number that goes directly TO the VMF (well, the fire station) on the Ice at McMurdo…I even know who runs the place and who makes the final call for a mechanic.

I was told by the person who gave it to me that the guy won’t ask me how I got it and I should contact him…

But I’m kinda afraid that I’m going to call and the guy will be like WTF who the hell are you, how did you get this number, what’s your name? And then make sure I don’t get the job.

Could this be anything but a bad idea?

Unless you have some indication that this guy wants you to call, it would not be normal for someone to call on the ice about a job. Work is the focus now, not hiring. I’d wait until March and call at the same guy in Denver at the office.
