since there seems to be an abundance of folks with a mcmurdo bent here i’m left to ask: are there any polies who’ll reveal themselves? anyone headed on to work at the pole this summer? just a tad curious to see if there are any new folk or returners who ply these discussion boards…

Well have to see if anyone is out there. If you are an OAE then you know the story, but if you are a newcomer, feel free to ask questions. Lots of us are familiar with the pole even though we haven’t been.
mikeOAE it is. i was broken in last year in the galley of the new south pole station. expert? no. veteran? yes. thanks for saying hello, but i was mostly just searching in the dark. kudos for the site though – it’s been a source of info since i first started trying to figure out how to get to antarctica three years ago.
Just doing my part in life. Glad we were able to help. As an OAE feel free to jump in and give your slant on things when people ask questions. Are you coming down again?
mikedefinitely coming down again (i fly out tomorrow afternoon) and i’ve already proffered some random advice to folks already – particularly on the possibility of employment when you have little to no work or educational background that is pertinent to the antarctic work life. it’s amazing the information you learn by going through and attempting to remain actively informed in the hiring process. gotta say though that most of the advice i have left has been regurgitated, offered forth first from a great many other places (such as here), filtered through my system, and tossed back out.
looks like i’ll be on one of the (if not the) first flights to the pole this year too, something i’m quite eager for. less than a week and i’ll be on the ice…
