Suddenly quiet on the board…. Too quiet.

So I’ve been trying to figure out what emoticons work in discussion posts but can’t find an explanation in the MSN help — except for emoticons that work in chat rooms, and I know that not all of those work for discussion posts. So, to find out what works and what doesn’t, here’s the complete list as reproduced from the MSN help text page (click on “Help” in the upper right corner of this page and put “emoticon” in the Search field).

Say what, NONE of them worked? At least, they don’t appear as emoticons on my computer, just text. I know *some* must work. As copied from the Help page, each has a preceding tab; maybe that’s having an effect? Here’s the same list with no preceding tabs. The last four are additions of my own.

Do these appear as text or images on your computer?

Anybody have any insight as to why I (and/or you) are not seeing emoticons?

Huh, whats going on here. I leave for a few days and this.  Well it has been quiet. Glenn the emoticons are on the toolbar on the top. plenty to choose from.
News from Crescent City.
Got the report back on rot in the house we are buying. 10k or so to jack up the back of the house and replace rotting timbers. About what we thought it would cost. We’re going through with the purchase. Looks like closing escrow on the 13th. Lorie and I are volunteer rangers with the Redwood National and State Park. Start working next week in the visitor center and maybe doing guided ranger walks as well. Trying to break into the system and get a job next year. Going away for the holiday weekend. See you all next week.

Ah, well there’s the problem. I don’t have the tool bar. This is what I see when I’m composing a message…

So the answer is… if you’re using Firefox, the formatting tool bar does not appear. No emoticons available.

aghh the msn firefox misconnection strikes again.
I use windows and just keep up the updates, virus and spyware.
haven’t had too many problems other than spysweeper sometimes goes nuts with what it checks and shuts down the computer for a minute or two.  I can’t figure out how to send the photo.
Finished up volunteer training today. Starting tuesday, you’ll see my shining mug half a day in the visitor centers and half a day roaming trails. Come on down.
