MemberThat WebCam is just too cool when you think about it. I’m sittin up here in Huntsville, Alabama, USA, North America, controlling a video camera in McMurdo,Antarctica! I know “cool” is a vastly over-used word that my kids say dates me in a very “uncool” way – but that is just so cool!
I’d like to try something radical. Would anyone down there be willing to synch up our watches with http://www.time.gov, then agree to go outside a specific building at a specified time so I can capture them on the WebCam??? There’s NEVER anyone outside this time of year. I caught a person once but when I refreshed, they were gone.September 22, 2003 at 6:41 am #1831thepooles98
KeymasterIt’s been done before but it’s pretty difficult to plan to be one spot at any given minute. We are after all a work camp and we called away at a moments notice most of the time. See if you can find the heavy shop with the camera. It’s the large yellow building with all the garage doors. Look for the “golf ball” sat station on the hill and then go down from there.
The problem with looking at people is that the camera is a nasa camera for the balloon program. It’s designed to look up not down. You can see the entire station when zoomed back , but when you zoom in the bottom limit places the view above the level of the roofs of the buildings not down low where you can see the people.
Let me know a location at the heavy shop where I can stand.

MemberI saw a vehicle! A red Ford truck drove right in front of the heavy shop at about 4PM CST on 9/24, or in McMurdo I guess that would be about 11AM on the 25th. Just one frame but it proves that there is life in Antarctica! Actually yesterday, I caught a few frames of an actual person out too.
I can zoom in to 3.5X on the roll up doors on the Heavy Shop with pretty good resolution without the doors moving out of the FOV. An easy spot to see is the big door at the extreme end of the single story part of the shop – or nearest the sound – or downhill end.(I don’t know directions but I’d guess that’s the south end of the bldg.) I can clearly see a big “143” on the outside wall and there is a large, white, passenger carrier just outside as well.September 25, 2003 at 12:47 pm #1835thepooles98
KeymasterI come out the door at the 143 sign about 5 after 11am for lunch every day that I’m here. I’ll stand outside for a minute or so for the next few days.
