There are some great stories about how places and things got their name – Sausage Point comes to mind – or Delta “Flipper” or the “Porn Spill” band – so, what’s your favorite story of a place name or thing’s name? And who here knows why Lake Patterson is called Lake Patterson (or is it “sen”?)
Lake Patterson is named for Mike Patterson. Mike worked in the program at all three stations for a number of years as a welder. He now works as a artist working with medals….great stuff. Mike also went by several nick names….Nude for one.

I doubt there are many folks on this blog that know what pork adobo tastes like, much less had it in the “galley”, when it was a galley, at McMurdo.

Ok, The Porn spill story I heard goes as follows.
Porn spill was/is a band headed up by waste management personell.
A pile of pornographic materials was gathered up as trash and sent with everything else to the states for disposal. As the box was being lifted off the ship, it broke open and all the porn spilled onto the docks. Hence the name porn spill.
Any truth to this story?
